At the first meeting of the new Taumarunui County Council Mr. G. A. otanton was re-elected chairman, a position he has held since the constitution of this local body
An enthusiastic meeting at Taumarunui resolved to form a club to be known as “The Taumarunui Cycle Club.’’ The first year’s officers were elected as follow: President, Mr. it Winger; vice-presidents. Messrs. P. Reardon, A. Maugham a.nd M. H Wilks; secretary, Mr. J. Miles; liandica.ppers. Messrs. P. Reardon and K. J. H. Lawrence; timekeeper, Mr. C. B. Simons. Competitions will be held" every fortnight.
Considerable evidence was given before the sitting of the Native Lands Commission in Taumarunui, but the chairman stated that the commission could not come to a decision in any of the cases dealt with; it could only recommend. The matter of compensation -for improvements by the lessees was the principal point at issue, and before adjourning the commission to Otorohanga the chairman. Judge MacCormick, stated that the compensation difficulty would be fully considered and reported on.
