COMPETING WITH BUSES

MOTOR COACHES TO PAY MORE REGULATIONS ALTERED Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The Minister of Transport, the Hon. \V. A. Veitch, announced today that an Order-in-Council had been passed altering the Motor Regulations. It has been discovered that motorcoaches, not constructed for the purpose, are plying in certain districts in competition with motor-omnibuses which are specially designed for carriage of passengers. The premium on the first is only £ 3 a year, while on the latter it is from £l2 upwards. The regulations now provide for the former paying the same rate as buses according to seating capacity, with the proviso that vehicles used in the carriage of school children, picnic parties and sports clubs, and never available for passenger hire by the general public, will remain at £3 for up to 10 seats capacity, with an addition of five shillings for every seat over that number, the driver not being counted.
