STATE PREMIERS MEET
IMPORTANT RESOLUTIONS PASSED EXCISE DUTY ON PETROL SYDNEY, Friday. A preliminary meeting ot the Premiers o£ all the Australian States was held in Sydney today. The Premiers are to attend a conference at Canberra next week. Various important decisions are announced. It was decided to urge the Commonwealth Government to impose an excise duty on petrol arriving in Australia, the proceeds of that duty to he distributed among the States in proportion to the petrol used in each instance. The question of compelling small coastal vessels engaged wholly in the domestic trade of any particular State to use wireless was considered. The States concerned are to be asked to formulate suggestions. It was resolved" that steps be taken to transfer to the Commonwealth Government certain uniform powers in regard to the control of aviation. Another decision was to urge upon the Commonwealth Government that the operations of the Commonwealth savings banks agencies should he transferred to the States.
