Heats and Final In Next N.Z. Cup

CONDITIONS ALTERED

(Special to THE SUN J CHRISTCHURCH, Today.. The committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club in arranging the programmes for the 1929-1930 season has made a change in the conditions of the New Zealand Cup to be run at the November carnival.

For several years it has been run on the first day of the November meeting, with a stake of X 3,000. Next season’s race will have a total stake of £ 4,000, but the race will be run under new conditions. After the final acceptance the field will be divided and there will be two heats on the first dav. They will be run as separate races, each, with a stake of £I,OOO. The final will be decided on the second clay with a stake of £3,000, and will be confined to the first four horses m the two heats, making a field of eight. The cup class will be the same as last year, for horses who have done or been handicapped at 4.26 or better. The placed horses in the two heats will not bo rehandicapped in the final. The alteration in the cup conditions has made it necessary to revise the programme in other directions. Two races have been dropped, these being tlie St. Albans Handicap, the mile saddle event on the fiist day and the Royal Handicap, one’mile and a-quarter. on the second day. The Sprinters’ Handicap, one mile has transferred from the third day to the second, while the Free for Ail, formerly on the second day’s programme, will 1,,, run on the third day. so that the horses who are in the final of the New Zealand Cup will not be at a disadvantage. The programme will thus contain three races of £I.OOO each on the first day, the two cup heats and the Dominion Trotting Handicap, while on the second day there will be the cup final of £2 000, backed up by the Derby and the Courtenay Handicap, each of £I.OOO. „ , , The total allocation of stakes for t he season is £36,150, an increase of £l.O over this season.
