KILLED WHILE BLASTING LOGS

Second Man Gravely Hurt SHOWING HOW IT HAPPENED (Special to THE SUN) TAIHAPE, Today. THE killing of one man and the serious injury of another by delayed explosions in the blasting' of logs makes an amazing story. Yesterday a, farmer was almost blown to pieces. Today, over the same log, another man, demonstrating before the coroner, nearly suffered the same consequences, although he may survive with his life.

M R WILLIAM BAYNE, farmer, aged 42, married, with eight children, the eldest of whom is 16, was killed yesterday afternoon while blasting a log on his farm at Raketapauma, 22 miles from Taihape. The charge did not explode, and Mr. Bayne went back to Inspect the log, when the explosion occurred. He was killed instantly, being frightfully mutilated. A similar accident occurred today, with the same log.

The district coroner, Mr. J. P. Aldridge, Mayor of Taihape, examined the log this afternoon. Another charge was found, which a bystander named Patrick McCann, jun., of Raketapauma, offered to explode. He applied and fired the fuse, but there was no explosion. He went to inspect, and leaned over the log as the explosion occurred. McCann was badly injured, but the full extent of his injuries is not yet known. He will probably survive.
