TN a “most popular boxer’’ contest run by the New York •‘Police Gazette,” Jack Dempsey swamped the ballot by collecting 31,960 votes, a remarkable tribute to the Manassa mauler, when it is considered that nobody quite knows what are Dempsey’s ring intentions. Young Stribling was second with 12,710 votes, and the popular German heavy-weight. Max Schmeling, put in a good late run for fourth place.
