REMEDY WITH FARMERS

UNEMPLOYMENT PROBLEM VIEWS OF MINISTER Press Association NELSON, Today. The Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore, had a great reception when he rose to speak at the banquet to Sir Joseph Ward at Motueka. As with the Prime Minister, he was loudly cheered and musical honours were accorded him. Mr. Atmore dealt with the need for remedying unemployment by stimulating primary industry and embarking on a closer settlement policy. This, in turn, would result in the secondary industries being made more prosperous. He emphasised the necessity of having an education policy more in accord with the actual conditions of life in New Zealand and reiterated his statement that, in a country with 95 per cent, of its annual production of wealth coming from the soil, it was absurd to have 95 per cent, of the educational expenditure directed toward fitting girls and hoys for town occupations.
