ELECTRIC SOCCER

CLEVER TRIAL PLAY SENIOR A JUST WINS There was a good attendance at the floodlight trial game at Blandford Park last evening, and the spectators were treated to an entertaining display of clever Soccer between the Senior A and Senior B representatives. The prevailing ’flu kept several players out of action, and the B division had to call on some of the reserves, including Mock” Corbett and '‘Billy” Palmer, two old Auckland reps, and ex-naval players, who stepped into the gaps, ;i nd showed a lot of their old-time brilliance. Corbett, at centre-half, was as good as any half on tiio field-, and Palmer's electric dashes were features of the B attack. The outstanding play of the evening was the .dashing goalkeeping on both sides. Surtees, of Rangers, gave a finished display for the B’s, which would be a credit to any rep. team. The manner in which he disposed of typical scoring hits from Kay was a feat which would have defied most goalies, while Zuill, at the other end, was almost impassable, and saved one penalty in a miraculous manner. The outside wings of the A side, Innes and Kay, were as entertaining as ever, and the diminutive Bon Webb appealed to the crowd with his clever ball control und opening up of the attacks. The .Vs won ultimately by the odd goal in three, and the play shows that the sole selector will have plenty of talent to pick from in the team to meet Wellington in the challenge match.
