STOLEN CHEQUE

PRESENTED AT ONEHUNGA When thieves raided His Majesty's ' Theatre during the week-end they ' stole a cheque for £72 7s 3d. As it was not signed, however, the cheque was valueless. This did not prevent the thief from attempting to pass it. Yesterday the cheque was presented at a bank in Onehunga, but the bank ; officials refused to accept it because it was not signed, and the thief simply took it away with him. The cheque is No. C 945262. drawn on the Bank of New Zealand. Palmerston North, purporting to be signed by J.C.W. (N.Z.), Ltd.. Midnight i Frolics Account. Two signatures are necessary before the cheque is negotiable, and as I is was only stamped with the firm's stamp it cannot be used. Busim people are warned against negotiating the cheque, on which signatures may i have been forged.
