DIDN’T SEE THE RACE

A CCORDING to the handicapping of some of the Auckland provincial horses in the East Coast Handicap at Hastings, Mr. G. Paul has unearthed a fresh system. In the Stewards’ Handicap at Cambridge, run over the same distance—thirteen furlongs— Lord Haldane was assessed on 3.54 (36yds behind), Polly’s Picture, 3.52 (60yds behind), and Dealer, 3.51 (72yds behind). Mr. Gooseman framed this adjustment after seeing the form of the trio at a previous fixture and they finished as follows: Lord Haldane third, Dealer fourth, Polly’s Picture sixth. In dealing with the same pacers at Hastings Mr. Paul has arranged Lord Haldane 3.53 (back 12yds for * his third). Polly’s Picture 3.53, and Dea'sr 3.52, the latter pair now meeting the former on 24yds better terms. This is another proof of the evil of a handicapper not wit- j nessing the racing.
