INDIAN GOVERNMENT APPREHENSIVE . GUARD FOR THE VICEROY (United Service) Reed. 9 a.m. LONDOX, Monday. The “Daily Mail” prints a cable from Calcutta showing that the Government authorities are contending with serious developments of a nature not at present explained. Stringent precautions are being taken to guard the Viceroy (Lord Irwin) and the various provincial governors, also all high civil and military officers, and public buildings. Rumours are prevalent regarding secret movements of troops and material to Northern India. Meanwhile there is a continuance of the Red letters, threatening incendiarism at the great Lahore railway workshops. The public is already demanding that the Government should take it into its confidence and tell the full truth, allaying anxiety among the isolated European communities.
