The Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Railways, arrived in Auckland this morning. He is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Clifford Salmon, of A. and T. R«rt's, who returned from Australia tent week, has left Auckland to spend some days in Wellington.

Mr. E. Casey, divisional superintendent. North Island Railways, returned tb Auckland this morning from Wellington.

Mr. H. H. Robinson, of General Motors, Wellington, who has been in j&ickiand for some days, left for the South by car on Sunday evening.

Mr. Vincent Ward, secretary to the prime Minister, the Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward, arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited. He was accompanied by Mrs. Ward.

Mr. Herwald Kirkpatrick, the wellknown Australian contractor and sportsman who has been living at the Grand Hotel for some months, left for Wellington last evening. He will return to Sydney on June 4.

The Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher, of Auckland, who reached Sydney early in the month en route to the Congregational Assembly at Brisbane, has been laid aside ever since by illness, but is now improving.

Mr. W. J. Holds worth, chairman of the Auckland Power Board, left hist evening to attend a meeting of the executive of the Power Boards’ Association in Wellington. He was accompanied by Mr. H. Bartley, general manager, and Mr, N. M. Speer, secretary.

Members of the Matamata Cricket Club gathered together last week-end to bid farewell to Mr. H. Murray, a popular member of the team, who is on transfer from the Bank of Australasia at Matamata to Wellington. Mr. Murray has been a member of the Matamata. eleven and one of the Piako Association’s representatives for the last t*vo seasons, and has proved himself a good all-round player. X)r. J. T. Laurenson presented him with a case of Loewe pipes as a small mark of the esteem of his club mates. Messrs. I*. W. Mehrtens and J. Landells also eulogised their departing club mate.
