Club Colours Decorate Hall At Takapuna

Life-Savers Dance To Gay Music MANY GUESTS PRESENT With, the object of providing further life-saving equipment, particularly a new reel, for the Hauraki Road end of Takapuna Beach, the members of the Takapuna Surf and Life-Saving Club held an enjoyable dance at the Palladium Theatre, Takapuna, last evening. The club colours, blue and gold, were artistically worked into the decorative scheme of both dance hall and supper room. Music for dancing was provided by Mr. Al. Thomson and his orchestra. Arrangements were in the hands of a committee consisting of Messrs. A. W. Collins, A. Gunn, G. Cameron, G. Rappard, X. Brown, A. Vail, and R. M. Moor, hon. secretary. Res ton, whose frock of gold velvet had embossed tissue panels. I : KING COUNTRY JOTTINGS ! The members of the Kakahi Ladies Hockey Club organised a function to farewell Miss F. Tait, who has been transferred from the l©cal school staff to a position in the Blenheim district. During the evening Miss J. Jones, captain of the club, presented the guest of the evening with a handbag, and at a latex' stage Miss Tait received a manicure set and a dainty pair of slippers from the school children. The Taumarunui Hospital Board decided at its last meeting that as soon as suitable accommodation and staff can be arranged the nurses at the hospital shall be granted an extra day’s holiday each month.

The second evening of the popular euchre tournament being conducted in Raurimu attracted a large number of players, the prizes being won as follow's: Mrs. Hill (trophy given by Mr. P. Clarke), Mr. Ingram (Mr. A. Hutson’s trophy).

The Manunui Tennis Club conducted a successful whist drive and dance, the gay decorations of the hall being a feature of the event. Excellent music was played by an orchestra consisting of Miss F. Watkins and Messrs. J. Weir and N. Endres. Mr. B. Wallace gave several appreciated extras, and Mr. W. Bowman was in the post of M.C. Whist drive results: Mrs. Bryan 1, Mrs. Brisk 2 and Mrs. Bradley 1, and Mrs. J. Davis 2. During the evening Mrs. W. Maud presented the cups and trophies to winners in the tennis tournaments held during the past season: Miss Curran; runner-up, Miss Cheese; Mr. S. Henry, junr.; runner-up, Mr. H. Miller. Miss Cheese won the second tournament, with Miss Curran in second place. In the men's second tournament, Mr. D. Kilpin piled up the highest points, with Mr. C. Haddon second. The Misses Gray and Bradshaw, two very popular members of Matiere’s social life, were the hostesses at a party in the local hall, over 100 guests being present. The orchestra consisted of Mrs. Noice and Messrs. N. Dillimoro, A. Ross, Longley, A. Ross and J. Ross, and items were given by Mrs. Sugdort, Messrs. Sandison, A. llhyned and A. Taylor. Miss M. Alanson won an interesting car competition, and Miss N. Margan won a quaint game, both receiving useful prizes.

The Raurimu Girls' Kahanga Club held its first meeting for the season at the residence of Mrs. Murray. A , number of new members were enrolled, and officers for the next term elected as follows.' President, Miss Murray; vice-president, Miss B. Anderson; secretary, Miss Zachariah; treasurer, Miss I. Hill. ! The Kakahi Catholic Church Committee, which is noted for organising pleasant dances during the winter season, conducted a well-attended function, at which novelty dances, always so popular, were a feature of the proceedings. The winners of the two principal events were: Monte Carlo, Mr. F. Watkins and partner: sppt waltz, Mr. B. Allan and partner. The Merry Five supplied the music, and Mr. L. Rowbotham was M.C. A very original table decoration recently seen in the house of a wellknown actress consisted of a large green glass bowl filled with those I varnished balls, whose brilliant colours, disposed in plaids or stripes, were one of the delights of our childhood. These were arranged in the form of a pyramid and made a very J effective and colourful centre-piece.
