SUCCESSFUL DANCE TO HONOUR DEVONPORT'S QUEEN CANDIDATES.

FUNDS FOR BANDSMEN j The Navy League rooms at Devonj port were the scene of a gay little j function last evening when a dance

was held in honour ot" the Band Queens ol' the carnival recently held in Devonport. The sum of £ 200 had been raised by the carnival, and this, is to be used in buying uniforms for the members of the band. PRESENTATIONS MADE Aliss Rua AlcGreagor secured the highest number of votes, but during the evening a presentation of a bracelet, ring and bouquet was also made to the other contestants, Aliss Peggy Seagar and Aliss Connie Porter, by the Mayor of Devonport, Air. E. E. Aldridge. Mrs. Sharp, accompanied by Aliss Edna Tye, sang several songs, and the remainder of the evening was spent dancing to tire music supplied by the Kit Kat Orchestra.

Miss Connie Porter, frock of peach tinted taffeta and lace. Miss Elder, lace frock of leaf-green and silver. Miss N. Hughes, frock of buttercup taffeta and lace. Miss Cooksey, frock of black lace and satin charmeuse. Miss Carey, palest primrose satin beaute. Miss Quelch, dainty frock of apple green chiffon. Miss Phyllis McGreagor, palest orchid georgette frock. Miss B. Stokes, frock of pistaehe green georgette. Miss B. Elder, amethyst chiffon frock with uneven hem-line. Miss Tatton, frock of pompadour pink georgette. Miss Marino, ivory satin beaute and tulle frock. ENGAGEMENTS The engagement is announced of Honey, the youngest daughter of Mrs. O'Connor and the late Mr. John O’Connor, to Frank Haydn, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Haigh, of Invercargill. The engagement is announced of Susie, only daughter of Bertram anti the late Mrs. Adams, formerly of Hamilton, to Robert Lynch, of Pukehuia, Northern Wairoa, son of Mrs. Lynch Blosse ami the late Edward Lynch Blosse, of Bath, England.
