Pottinger left i last evening by the Limited express j for Wellington and leave from there to spend a month in Papeete. Mrs. Edgar, of Auckland, has returned to London with her sister. Miss Langsford, after a three months’ trip throughout Southern Europe. Mr. and Mrs. L, S. Rickerby, of Grange Road, Mount Eden, who have been away for 10 days in Rotorua and Palmerston North, arrived home today. Miss W. Plummer, of Auckland, who has been .holidaying in Christchurch, spent a few days with her sistei*, Mrs. Hubert Hammond, in Hamilton, on her way home. Lieutenant-Commander J. D. Prentice, R.N., who is to join H.M.S. Philomel, arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited. He was accompanied by Mrs. Prentice. Mr. and Mrs. C. Alma Baker left today by the Niagara for Sydney. They go from there to Penang and in August will go to London. Early next year they will return to New Zealand. Mr. and M.rs. Murray Benjamin, of Auckland, who have been visiting Australia, returned by the Maunganui this morning. They are at present staying at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. A pretty wedding was celebrated in 1 St. Joseph's Church, Waihi, on Wed- | nesday morning, when Miss Winifred | flinchev, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rinchey, of Renny Street, Waihi, was married to Mr. Guy Harte Barry, son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Barry, jof Dublin Ireland. The party en- ; tered the church to the strains of the j bridal hymn and a large ccngrega- ! tion attended the nuptial mass which I was celebrated by the Rev. Father j O’Hara. > The bride wore a picture frock of [ white taffeta, touched with silver. The 1 slender bodice was fashioned with | long close-fitting georgette sleeves and ! the skirt was finished with tiny frills i and a beautiful silver rose. Her veil. | which formed a train, fell from a most • becoming capette of orange blossoms. | She carried a shower bouquet of white ! and shadow pink chrysanthemums with ; silver streamers. ! Jones, Herne Bay, to celebrate the first birthday of their daughter, Betty. The sitting and supper-rooms were decorated with flowers, streamers and balloons. During the evening Mrs. C. Dickens, Mrs. R. Dickens and Mr. L. Lome sang several appreciated solos. Among those present were: Mrs. L. Nielcl, Miss Nancy Xield. Mrs. H. Akast. Miss Dorothy Akast, Mrs. .1. Hibbert. Mrs. G. BRIDGE PLAYERS MEET AT LYCEUM CLUB The Bridge Circle of the Lyceum Club met yesterday afternoon in the club rooms. Mrs. S. T. Wicksteed, convenor, receiving the guests. GOLDEN WEDDING MR. AND MRS. W. E. MORTON, GREEN LANE Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Morton, of Momona Road, Green Lane, celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding today. Mr. Morton is now in his 82nd year. Me came to the colony as a youth end settled in Auckland with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Morton, in 1863. With his father he joined the staff of the “Daily Southern Cross,” and later aided in the production of the “Auckland Weekly News.” Mr. Morton was a member of the “Southern Cross” staff for 11 years.
He later entered business and was connected with the firm of H. B. Morton and Co. Mr. Morton married Aliss Elizabeth Ayerest Bishop, daughter of Mr. and Airs. John Biehop, at St. Alark’s Church, Remuera, in 1879, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. B. Y. Ash well.
Airs. Alorton arrived in Auckland with her parents in the ship Avon in 1860, and settled at Tamaki. Here Mrs. Alorton spent her childhood, and still retains vivid memories of the troublous days of the Maori War. when parties of natives frequently made their way across the 'Tamaki Isthmus.
Air. and Airs. Alorton made their first home at Alelrose, Devonport, afterwards removing to Papakura, and later to their present homo at Green Lane.
Their family consists of three sons. Messrs. F .IT. and E. Rupert Alorton, Remuera, Air. W. B. Morton, Wellington. and one daughter, Aliss Elsie K. Alorton. Another son, the late Captain Alfred B. Alorton, New Zealand Staff Corps, was killed at Quinn’s Post, Gallipoli, the week following the landing.
