DO THE BRAKES DRAG?
AN EASY TEST : A test by which any motorist can j readily ascertain whether his brakes I | are dragging - , a condition that seri- ' | ously affects car performance and ! operating economy, is passed on by ! Ltd. j To test for dragging brakes, attain i j a speed of 30 miles an hour on a ; j smooth level road, then shift to neutral j ; and let the car coast. When the | ! speedometer shows 2 5 miles an hour, i 1 begin timing the deceleration. If the j car is not rolling at least five miles an I hour at the end of 60 seconds, have j the brakes inspected for rubbing or binding. To offset the effect of the wind, the driver should make the test over the same level stretch, in both direction. ll , and note the average time taken to decelerate from 25 miles an hour to five miles an hour. The average should be GO seconds or more.
