GIFT TO HIS EMPLOYEES

GRAMOPHONE MAGNATE GIVES £IOO,OOO FIFTIETH BIRTHDAY (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Saturday. Mr. Louis Sterling, managing director of the Columbia Gramophone Company, has made a gift of £IOO,OOO to 1,000 employees of the company, in celebration of his fiftieth birthday. The employees are in eight different countries. Their shares are in proportion to the length of their service. Mr. Sterling says he had given the same amount by his will, but decided that it was no use to wait until he was dead. It would be of more use to the recipients now than at his death.
