NORTHCOTE-BIRKENHEAD ORPHANS

CLUBS SUCCESSFUL OPENING The first meeting of the present session of the Northcote and Birkenhead Orphans’ Club was held on Saturday evening, Dr. J. W. Craven presiding. The chairman extended a hearty welcome to a large number of visitors from other clubs and congratulated Bros. Elliss, Cross and Taylor on their election as councillors of the Northcote Borough, and also Bro. Hayman on his success at the Birkenhead election.

Visitors present were. Bros. McDonald, president; J. Pierce, sec., and W. Gould (Otahuhu); W. Bloomfield, president. —. Archibald, secretary, and Mr. A. Harris. M.P. (Takapuna); Bro. Hosking, president, —. Foster, vicepresident (Pukekohe), and the Mayor. Mr. A. E. Greenslade. and Mr. Wilson, town clerk of Northcote. Congratulatory telegrams were received from the presidents of the Auckland. Papakura, Devonport and Takapuna Clubs, and also from the manager of the Devonport Steam Ferry Co. The following programme was given: Overture, club orchestra; song, Bro. Selwyn Hamlin; some liumour, Bro. D. McKevitt; song, Bro. G. Fagan; humour. Bro. G. H. Chevis.

Bro. R Salt was the accompanist and Bro. G. W. Bowes conducted the orchestra.
