SAWMILLERS COMBINE
IMPROVING METHODS OF MARKETING 50 MILLS FORM MERGER (I'rom Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Today. An important step has been taken in the sawmilling industry in the King Country, Waikato and Rotorua districts by the merger of over 50 timber-mills. Negotiations to co-ordinate the various interests of the sawmillers have been in progress for some months and these were brought to a successful issue yesterday at a meeting held in Hamilton, at which over SO per cent, of the sawmilling companies in the Main Trunk and Rotorjia districts were represented. An organisation called the Sawmillers’ Timber Trading Company, Ltd., has been registered here, and will market all timber produced by its members from June 1. All the larger companies have joined. Advantage will be taken of the change in marketing methods to introduce a new standard of grading and classification. The steps taken will result in placing this important industry on a sounder basis and will enable it to give more efficient service to the community hv using the; most economical means of distribution.
