Won by three-quarters of ft length, a head between second and third. Time, 2.45. Red Bank was favourite in a good betting race on the Rata Hack Hurdles, but was at a good price. Joy King went out fast and led through the straight, but at the hurdle in front of the stewards’ stand Red Bank jumped up to him and the pair led into the back from Tiega and Gala Day. Gala Day fell six furlongs from home, and Red Bank assumed command and led into the straight from Otairi, Cj r bele and Tiega. Red Bank eventually won by a length from Tiega, who beat Otairi by a head, with Cybele a good fourth and Wilmoreana, Vivo and Overhaul next. Monsogne moved up smartly along the back and Goodwill advanced on the top turn. Shrewd led into the straight from Monsogne, Tunbridge and Royal Acre. Shrewd won particularly well by half a length from Disrank, who got up on the rails with a late run. Monsogne and Royal Acre were close up and Tunbridge and Goodwill were next. MAY HURDLES Of £300; 12 miles I—RED FUCHSIA, 11.5 1 4 ABERFELDY, 9.13 2 5 NOVAR, 10.1 3 All started. Won by half a head, six lengths between second and third. Time, 3.13 2-5. As Glengariff seemed sore he was not as well backed for the May Hurdles as otherwise would have been the case. Red Fuchsia touched a short price, but had a close call. Aberfeldy got to the front early in the race and was in charge through the straight from Nucleus, Red Fuchsia, Atareria, Airtight, Beaumont and Novar. Glengariff fell at the hurdle at the six furlong post, and Atareria continued in the lead. Aberfeldy was closely followed into the straight by Red Fuchsia, who in a good finish beat him home by a head. Novar ran up into third place, but was six lengths away, and Nucleus and Atareria were next. This is the best race the Riccarton-trained Aberfeldy has run in the North Island for some time and he is right now. E. Warner Injured.

When Gala Day fell in the Rata Hack Hurdles, E. Warner received head and internal injuries and was removed to hospital. W. J. Bowden was hurt and removed to hospital when Glengariff fell in the May Hurdles. He did not move after the fall.
