FLOODS RECEDING

GENERAL DAMAGE SMALL IN HAWKE’S BAY SOME CROPS LOST Press Association NAPIER, Today. Flood waters have receded considerably all over the district, except on the Pakowhai Road, the inland route from Napier to Hastings, where it is feared that the Ngaruroro River has made a serious scour which is said by some to amount to a new course for that river. The road is still blocked, although only by a short stretch, while the river proper has fallen considerably. The current of water across the road nearby is much higher and is quite impassable to all traffic. The amount of general damage reported is small, hut isolated cases of loss of crops, etc., are coming to hand. The weather is now fine, and all rivers are receding satisfactorily.
