OUTBURST ON TRAM OFFENDER FINED £1 A few carefully-selected but undoubtedly objectionable remarks resulted in the appearance of James Allison Dye at the Police Court this morning. Dye pleaded guilty to being found drunk in Customs Street and using obscene language on a tramcar. A drinking bout with a companion | in Parnell was held by Sub-Inspector McCarthy to be responsible for Dye’s j outburst. He had boarded the tram j under the influence of liquor and inI suited the tram conductor. “He seemed [ to have a muddled idea that the conductor was what he called a Pommy,” added the sub-inspector. Dye had not been before the Court since November last, and had never before been convicted on any other charge but drunkenness. He was fined 5s on the minor charge and £1 plus £1 witnesses’ expenses for using obscene language. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., gave him until Monday to find the money, but pointed out to him ! the seriousness with which bad behaviour in a tram was regarded anJ i the anonyance to which it subjected I other people.
