BIG PRICE
FOR HIGH DISDAIN UNLUCKY HORSE | High Disdain, the * New Zealand j three-year-old sprinter at present in Sydney, has been bought by Mr. AY. ! Barnard, of Randwick. The figure is reported to be high. The gelding will be trained by J. Kingsley, who recently had bad luck in losing the useful performer Illuminate. High Disdain was a fair sprinter in New Zealand before being brought to Sydney. In his three starts there, lie filled third place twice —at Rosehill and Canterbury within the last week or so—and, as on each occasion he carried a comparatively heavy weight, there was merit in the performances. Considering he is only a three-year-old. High Disdain is likely to develop into a fair sprinter with greater experience, and it is doubtful if his new connections will rue the purchase. Not Over-Ambitious Good judges reckon, on his New Zealand performances, that he is overweighted in Sydney in good company. But his new owner will not fly straight at high game. Present intention is to let him tackle ordinary company to get a line on his real worth, and. then, if he proves himself in such class, he will be given his opportunity later of winning a big prize. It will be a change of luck for the trainer. J. Kingsley, if High Disdain does as well as his owner hopes, for he has enjoyed no luck since crossing from A.R.C. courses many years ago with Dreblah and AVaracre. He had great hopes of Illuminate winning good races, for he claimed to have improved him greatly in the short while he had the gelding, but when backed for a small fortune in a race at Rosehill, he fell at the straight entrance and was subsequently destroyed.
number were Sunart, Frisco Jack, Birkenose, Gay Bobbie, The Curragh, Rangi Sarto, Postman, Aurora Borealis, Grand National, Caluna and American Pillar. Piuthair appears to be standing up to lier tasks quite satisfactorily and she was finishing on strongly at the end of a working gallop with Corbel yesterday morning. The friends of trainer R. E. Hatch will regret to learn that Mrs. Hatch, who has been in indifferent health for some time past, was compelled to undergo an operation on Saturday. Neither Frisco Jack nor Marcellus was entered for the jumping events at Wanganui. The former may be given a run over the battens at Otaki prior to competing over country at Napier. Mrs. McDonald has received the half-brother by Hymestra to Red Fuchsia and the new addition is stated to be a particularly promising sort from the point of view of looks at least.
