MAJESTIC
“TRENT’S LAST CASE” A cast that picturcgocrs will hail with joy, and the most baffling murder mystery that has yet come to the screen is contained in “Trent’s Last Case,” Fox latest dramatic picture, to be shown at the Majestic Theatre from this evening. Donald Crisp, Raymond Griffith, Raymond Hatton, Marceline Day, Nicholas Soussanin, Anita Garvin and Lawrence
Gray have the principal roles, a cast that for dramatic ability, screen prominence and suitability for the parr, seldom has been equalled in any production. H o wa rd Hawkes, director of ninny notable productions, was given carte blanche by Fox officials to
select what players he wanted, irrespective of their affiliations or salaries, and the only requirement was that each should suit the role like a gloye, and Hawke’s success in achieving this goal is proven by the remarkable performances given by the entire cast. Taken from a novel, “Trent’s Last Case,” by E. C. Bentley, the 111 m play is a faithful rendition of the original story, plus the increased intensity due to the dramatic possibilities of the screen itself. In brief, the story revolves about the figure of a saturnine cripple, who plans to shoot himself in such a way as to bring a charge of attempted murder on his wife’s lover. The manner in which the web of circumstantial evidence is tightened and the climax, make the picture one of the most unusual film dramas of the year. In the supporting programme, too. the Majestic is maintaining the usual high standard of entertainment. There will be a Majestic News, with all the latest world events, a Max Davidson comedy, and another of those musical films, this one “Songs of Italy.” with vocal accompaniment by Mr. Arthur Ripley. The Majestic Quartette will appear in a song scena. “Fireside Memories.” An interesting film of the rescue of the “Southern Cross” will also be shown. This depicts the search r.nd the .rescue, as well as views of the ill-fated “Kookaburra.” Mr. Whiteford-Waugh’s orchestra will play throughout.
