CHINA FAMINE RELIEF
MEAGRE SUPPORT FOR MAYOR’S FUND WELLINGTON GIVES MORE The Mayor’s fund opened six weeks ago for the relief of faminestricken China has met with meagre support. At the suggestion ol the Mayor i Wellington the Auckland City Council agreed to open a fund and voted a hundred guineas. The town clerk. Mr. J. S. Brigham, stated this morning that so far only £156 had been subscribed and this included the council’s £lO5. j On the other hand before the end of April Wellington had already remitted C 600 to China and it was expected that, with the assistance of the churches, £ 1.000 would be raised. Mr. Brigham has sent Auckland's £156 to the China International Famine Relief organisation at Hankow Road. Shanghai.
