WESTFIELD SALE WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m. Another heavy yarding of approximately 550 steers and 350 cows came forward to Westfield today. . Prices at the opening were practically on a par with last week’s easier rates, but showed a further slight decline toward the close. The quality, generally, was good, medium weight cattle predominating. There was a fair percentage of partly - finished light-weight cattle that, at any other time of the year, would have been held for topping off. Graziers from all parts of the district contributed to the offering. Bay of Plenty as well as North Auckland sellers having lines forward. The biggest percentage of the yarding came from the Waikato. Top price of the day was paid for *-n exceptionally fat medium-framed Hereford offered on account of a Waikato client. The beast was one of the fattest seen in the yards for years, being too prime for average butcher’s Purposes. It went to K. and W. Hellaby, Ltd., for £l7 10s. Some of the best heavy-weight cattle Pf the day came from H. E. Reed, Waerenga, eleven very choice prime steers account of this vendor making up to 2s 6d. The top-priced pen went to T. Raster, Ponsonby Roacl. Eighteen medium-weight steers on account of R. c. Morgan, Matamata, made up to £l3 15s. Sixteen medium to heavy-weight steers on account of Mrs. Main, the majority o! which were exceptionally well finished, made to £l4 12s 6d. Twenty-eight handy -weight steers rrom H. E. Vaile, Rotorua, made to £l* 15s.
Sixteen medium to heavy-weight on account of D. McCracken, Te made to £l4 7s 6d. Sixteen medium to heavy prime «eers on account of P. Corbett, Hikutaia. mad© to £ls 12s 6d. Seventeen from Bells Estate, Pokeno, made to £l4 2s 6d. Export buyers were again operating sparingly on lines of well-finished heavy-weight cattle, but only took a vp ry small portion of the offering. Best ox made to 365; best young cow and ki * to 325; a * ew exceptionally choice quality lines making slightly above that figure. . h<avy yarding of calves comprised a big percentage of well-finished vealf lf> and runners drawn from station herds. Several trucks came forward account of North Auckland and Waikato vendors.
