NEW AMBASSADOR

DAWES TO STUDY ARMS SITUATION CONFERENCE WITH HOOVER (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Rec. 9.5 a.m. WASHINGTON, Tuesday The new Ambassador to Britain, General C. G. Dawes, is scheduled to be the guest of President Hoover on May 15, during a series of conferences with the President and Mr. H. L. Stimson, Secretary of State, prior to assuming his diplomatic duties in London, where he is expected to arrive shortly after the British elections. General Dawes’s first assignment is to familiarise himself with all angles of the naval armaments situation, which is considered the foremost problem with which he will be asso dated. Debt and reparations questions come second on the list, and it is felt here that also bulking largely in all the new Ambassador’s work will be the task of bettering the relations between the United States and Britain.

DISARMAMENT PROBLEM POWERS MUST NOW STUDY AMERICAN PLAN (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. WASHINGTON, Tues. President Hoover is of the opinion that no further disarmament action can be taken until the naval Powers have advanced their study of the United States proposals submitted at the recent Geneva Conference of the Preparatory Disarmament Commission.
