Obituary

MR. W. C. EDWARDS Mr. Walter Cleeve Edwards, the only son of Archdeacon and Mrs. Edwards, died in Sydney on April 25 after a short illness. One of the pioneer civil engineers In New Zealand, Mr. Edwards worked on the devolopment of the South Island and after a successful career went to South Africa, where for 16 years he was engaged in engineering. He wasecond engineer to the Cape Colony. Iluring the Boer War he was captured and imprisoned for the rest of the -var. On being released he received a pension and left for the Gilbert and Ellice I Islands, where he was appointed chief 1 resident and engineer to the company ! working the phosphate deposits. He | retired a few years ago and resided in I Sydney until his death-
