MORE POWER WANTED

EFFECT OF TRANSPORT LOAN NEW SUB-STATIONS The successful carrying of if). Transport Board’s loan proposals and its decision to proceed immediately with extension work makes it necessary for the Auckland Electric-Power Board to consider extension work in order to provide the power supply requirements of the Transport Board. This information was contained in a report submitted to the board at yesterday’s meeting by the general manager, Mr. R. H. Bartley. “The work required calls for the erection of two additional sub-stations. It demands, too, the completion of oar 22,000-volt mains between Penrose and Kingsland and, likewise, the 22,006volt cable link between Kingsland and Point Chevalier,” says the report. "It is suggested that the plant in one station comprise two units each of 1,000 kilowatts, and the other station two units each of 506 kilowatts. I further recommend that these stations be fully automatic in operation and that a supervisory control system be installed so that each sub-station can be independently handled by the staff at King’s Wharf station. “There is a great deal of work to be done before the supply can be made available and the Transport Board requires to know the approximate dates of completion for both substations in order that it may arrange its work accordingly. I estimate that it should be possible to have supply available in July, 1930. The Dominion Road extension does not require much work on our part and power in this connection can be available almost immediately.” The total cost of the work wilt approximate £75,000 to £BO,OOO, the money being provided for by the lokns recently authorised.
