To a pedestrian every car is a dodge. They’re pickin’ up the pieces, With a dustpan and a rake, Because he used liis horn When he oughta used his brake. An English periodical suggests that rat extermination can be effectively carried out by utilising the deadly monoxide gas from the car exhaust. The idea is to lead a hose to the rat hole and discharge the exhaust until the atmosphere Is well saturated. No advicff is offered regarding the extrication of the deceased rat. Those who are in intimate touch with the world’s automobile markets estimate that open cars will constitute less than 10 per cent, of the production during 1929. Some American factories are working schedules providing for only three per cent, of open cars. There will always be a small demand for the sporting type of open car. Four million men were employed daily in the producing end of the motor-car industry in U.S.A. last year, and hordes of other employees were busy supplying the needs of the motorists operating the 23,000,000 cars on the roads. In 1900, the last big year in the horse and carriage industry, a.bout 1,200,000 workers were employed directly and indirectly in the transport industry.
