An interesting reference to the wort on the Ohura-Stratford railway was made at a smoke concert given in honour of the outgoing Ohura County Council. The assistant engineer on th« work, Mr. R. R. Dawber. stated that in nine months past the number of mm employed on the line had increase! from 275 to 450. and even if additional men could be placed on the work it would not shorten the time of completion, as the factor governing this was the tunnelling, on which only a limited number of men could be engaged at any one time. Mr. Dawber expressed the opinion that the line would ha completed in about three years, of which period about two and a-half years .would be occupied in tunnelling operations.
