MANUREWA NOTES

MEETING OF TOWN BOARD The Manurewg. Town Board held its usual fortnightly meeting last evening, the chairman, Mr. Geo. Gallaher, presiding. A letter was received from the Auckland Rugby Union stating it was unable to grant the local club’s request that the union pay a ground rental to the board. A lengthy discussion took place in regard to the club's tenure of Jellicoe Park, and ultimately it was left to the Reserves Committe to deal with the question. The clerk reported that the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board’s levy for the current year showed a decrease of £2O on last year’s demand, this year’s amount being £476 3s 4d. A deputation representing the residents of Marr Road waited on the board with a request that something be done to relieve the condition of the footpaths in this road. Mr. Gallaher stated that in his opinion the board had done its utmost for vehicular traffic, and it’was now his intention to concentrate on the district’s footpaths. He agreed that the path under review required some immediate relief and the question would receive further consideration when the estimates for the current year were being compiled in the near future. Mr. W. Fergusson urged the board to seek an improvement'in the local postal delivery service, stating that Mahia Kofad residents were served by only one delivery daily, at about 2.30 p.m. It was decided* to communicate with the local pQstmaster advising him that numerous complaints had been received and asking that endeavours be made to have the delivery completed by noon each day.
