EMPTY HOUSE BURNED

FIRE AT MOUNT ROSKILL An empty’ house of nine rooms in Galetta Road, off AVhite Swan Road, Mount RoskJll, was completely destroyed by fire early yesterday morning. Since the place was out of the water supply area and about four miles from the Mount Roskill fire station, and since there was no means of sending an alarm, nothing could be done to save the building. Mr. Cooper, who was looking after the house in the absence of tenants, inspected the building about 11 a.m. on Saturday, when everything appeared to be in order. It is thought that the fire broke out about 3 a.m. on Sunday’. The building was owned by’ Mr. J. Oldham, of 5 Hepburn Street. Ponsonby, and was insured for £2,000 in the New) Zealand office.
