ROSES IN THE RAIN
I was sitting by the window With, my cheek against the pane. And I saw the roses dancing— Little roses in the rain. I blew a kiss towards them, For I knew that tucked inside The pink and curling petals The fairy children hide. I saw their tiny fingers Blow kisses back to me; And, oh, my heart was happy. And I sang merrily. So now when it is raining. And inside I have to stay, I sit close to the window And watch the elves at play. I throw kisses to the fairies; They throw them back again . . . It’s very nice to sit and -watch The roses in the rain. —Gloria Rawlinson (aged 10)
