TE AROHA TOPICS
QUIET ON THE TRACKS (Special to T£LE SUN) TE AROHA, Friday. Mr. A. J. Forrest, 'who of late years has handled quite a large proportion of this district’s thoroughbreds, has broken in the three-year-old Glen Star filly that is a member of G. A. Reid's team. She will be put into commission and when spring comes round should have shaped up into racing form. A one-time good performer, Some Fashion, owned by a Te Aroha sportsman, has again been brought in. He appears to be thoroughly sound again and may soon take his place among the hurdlers. The local horses to race at Pukekohe are to be entrained today. J. H. Wallace will take Sir Russell and Flying Tresses; A. E. Cox will only have Black Maire, and G. Reid will travel with Crown Arch and Lucy Rose. M. Lipsey is effecting a noticeable improvement in the appearance of Grand Arch. He will probably only be raced once, perhaps at the Franklin meeting, before being given an easy time during the winter months. . Narjuhan has met with a mishap to his cheek or jaw, which is thought to have been splintered. The injury may not be serious, as he appears to be feeding in approved style in a nicely sheltered paddock. For a few days after the Waikato meeting Lucy Rose was decidedly lame from the effects of a hoolf injury. She was successfully treated by her trainer-owner and this week has been working nicely on the tracks. The T'otoa representative in Lipsey’s string has been sent over hurdles during the week and his efforts were of a pleasing nature. Mr. R. B. Hines’s trio. Iving Lu. Queen Arch and Waltzer, are again in active commission after a few day’s rest following on the Waikato fixture. They are now getting ready to compete at the Auckland winter meeting. The Lamb may join the ranks of the hurdlers in due course, for he has already been given his preliminary lesson over the battens. Mr. A. McNieol’s Tanetoa is to be spelled consequent upon receiving a rick when racing at Waikato. This is rather unfortunate as he bade fair to be a payable proposition. The Glen Abby filly in Cox’s team is progressing favourably in her work and shapes really well. On Thursday Black Maire did slow work over a couple of rounds, and Waltzer. King Lu and Queen Arch executed long work, moving freely throughout. The Potoa —Rosewood gelding was given three-quarter pace work, and Grand Arch galloped a round in a free manner. Flying Tresses sprinted half a mile in 53 and Crown Arch a similar distance in 52 3-5. Tie only carried a light weight, but looks very bright and well.
W aikato Club At a committee meeting of the Waikato Racing Club held last evening it was stated that the recent meeting showed a profit slightly in excess of that for the corresponding fixture last year. A resolution was passed supporting the proposed Gaming Bill to provide for the publication of dividends, the telegraphing of mony to the course for investment and the installation of the doubl totaiisator.
