JURY DISAGREES

MORNINGSIDE ASSAULT CASE RETRIAL APPLIED FOR The jury deliberated four and a-hall hours on the case of Bertram Augustine O’Connor, 35. who stood his trial in the Supreme Court yesterday before Mr. Justice Herdman on a charge of assaulting a young woman with intent to do her grievous bodily harm, and returned to announce a disagreement. The prosecution arose out of an incident on the Western Springs Road, Morningside, about 9 o’clock on the night of March 28, when a man followed the young woman and struck her on the head with a piece of galvanised iron piping. Application was made by the Crown Prosecutor, Mr. Meredith, for leave to institute a new trial.
