FLEW EIGHT MILES UP
ALTITUDE RECORD BY AN AMERICAN FEAT OF NAVAL AIRMAN (United ServiceJ WASHINGTON, Wednesday. An American naval airman, Lieutenant Apollo Soucek, ascended nearly eight miles in an airplane today and established a world’s altitude record. He used an oxygen mask and a super-charger after he touched 20,000 ft, The airman’s instruments showed that he had risen more than 40,000 ft.
