Ponsonby v. Marist
TOMORROW’S LEAGUE CLASH Two Greatly Improved Teams IX the chief League Rugby attraction to-morrow Ponsonby will meet Marists. As both these thirteens have shown a remarkably improved form and have figured in the more interesting of the games played this season, a close and interesting tussle should result. The early game at Carlaw Park will be between City and Richmond, but does not promise the interest of the feature game.
BOTH teams, Ponsonby and Marist, proved themselves in their respective games last Saturday, and the fine exhibitions of the code then are bound to be repeated when these two sides, considered to be perhaps the most even in the competition, meet on the main area at League headquarters tomorrow. The City v. Richmond contest, to be played on the main area previous to the big match, will certainly not be void of interest, and although Richmond has shown itself to be one of the finest sides in the senior competition, City has shown a marked improvement, and it can be left to it to make the game worth while. At the Domain, Newton will meet Kingsland, and at Devonport the Shore Leaguers will meet Ellerslie. Shore have not had a great deal of opposition lately, and it will pleasing to see them once more back on the main are at Carlaw Park, possibly next week. THE TEAMS Senior A Grade Ellerslie. —Johnson. OLD HOCKEY RIVALS
SOMERVILLE V. ST. LUKE’S VARSITY MEETS SHORE Owing to a rearrangement of the senior grade as a result of the withdrawal of Otahuhu, there are only two senior hockey matches at Remuera tomorrow. University meets North Shore on No. 3 ground at 3.5. The students are not consolidated as yet, while Shore has a first-class eleven. On paper, at least, the Blues will have a very hard fight to keep their goal intact. Shore’s forwards have already shown themselves a keen set of battlers and a hard game will result. The historic rivals, Somerville and St. Luke’s, may be relied on to wield clever sticks. Both sides have several top-notch men and promising colts, and as the season wears on excellent hockey should be seen in the grade. The Mount Eden and Epiphany teams have byes this week, but there should be no further Saturdays missed when the readjustments have been made.
