Dunedin Finals Are on Tomorrow

MORE LARGE FIELDS After the successful opening of the Forbury Park winter carnival yesterday, some interesting sport can be looked for tomorrow when the fixture reaches finality. A review of the card is appended by “Abaydos.” The acceptances show that the fields In many events will be large again, and after the form displayed yesterday, backers should have a good guide ; in making their selections. It looks | as if the track will again be on the heavy side, but shculd it be in better order, some of those that failed to handle the going on the opening day may be seen to better advantage. Tahuna Handicap This event is run in harness, and the Produce candidates. Great Way, Great Nelson and Nelson Parrish. should show up among the older trotters. The Kitty Patch —Silurian bracket will be dangerous and Admiral Bingen and Tot Logan will do better under this style. Fancies may be Kitty Patch,—Silurian bracket and Great Way. Royal Handicap In the big field there is a good number off the front, of which Koval Comrade and Rollo may do best, but Le Thorpe is a useful sort. Further back Willie Wilkes, Nell d© Beau, Sunny Bob and Erin’s Fortune should show u out the preference will probably b© .for Rollo—Nell de Beau bracket and Royal Comrade. Pacific Handicap This is the saddle heat and off the post Nelson Fay, Maiinea and Winnie Chrysler will have friends, with most for tli© former. Bismurate is a possibility and Shadowland has shown consistent form of late. Sunchild won well yesterday, but may be reserved for a later race, and if he is absent, Wilima Dillon and Shadowland will be in demand. Southland Handicap Some good ones are on the fron. line, including Chimer, Kreisler, Loiterer, Kollo, Morning Sun and Lady Cello and the winner may be from this lot, although Slump’s consistency will appeal. Dilworth can go well over this journey, and may be the elect with Slump. Victory Handicap Athalone will be well supported off th© front and Harvest Child will go solidly. Jean McElwyn is staying on better and is sure to be handy at the finish, and if Dundas Boy also starts the bracket will be warm. Silk Thread may do better tomorrow, while Logan Chief cannot be far off a win. Author Jinks may emulate the deed of Terence Dillon, but favourites will probably be Jean McElwyn-Dundas Boy bracket and Athalone. .... Peninsula Handicap The field of square-gaiters is not large, but th© race should be full of interest. Audobell is returning to form and will make it interesting, while Bingen Starr, despite his failure on the first day will not be neglected. Western Voyage went solidly, while Bonny Belmont appears to have finished well. Le Todd is consistent and the order may be Western Voyage and Le Todd. Railway Handicap Chimer should run well off the end. while D. Bennett’s pair Kreisler and Locanda Boy will carry plenty of cash. Sunchild, if reserved for this heat, will be in demand, and Nelson McElwyn and Nelson de Oro are a solid pair. If Sunchild is missing, Bennett’s bracket and Nelson de Oro may be the elect. Farewell Handicap Athalone will do best of those on the front, and Trimmer, who should benefit by his race yesterday, will be hard to dispose of. Glenelg will be suited by the journey, and Free Advice promises to be in the picture. Dundas Boy won so well on Thursday he will take a power of beating, and Author Jinks is bound to be knocking at the end. Most support may be for Dundas Boy and Trimmer.

EXCITING FINISH

SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES GREAT WAY—GREAT NELSON (Special to THE SUN) DUNEDIN, Thursday. The most exciting finish yet witnessed in the trotters’ classic at Forbury Park took place today, when, after a desperate tussle over i the final stages, Great Way and Great Nelson were declared even in the honours by the judge. In the Sires’ Produce Stakes, the trotting classic, Koro Peter was a hut favourite, but he ran a long wav below expectations, breaking under the least provocation. When he was trotting he showed speed, but had no chance-with the other pair, finishing up a very poor third. The Nelson-owned and trained Nelson Parrish, trotted a fine race leading until half a mile from home, where he faded out. The honours were with Great Way, as he broke up at the start, and was a long way out of his ground with a mile to go. Previously he had been a big disappointment, and on form he had no chance in today’s race. Nevertheless the Peterwah gelding had sufficient friends to send him out second favourite, and his brilliance outshone all the others round the back the last time, where he went to the front, to come into the straight with a i three-lengths advantage. Great Nelson trotted brilliantly in | the straight and when the pair came abreast there was no separating them. : Ambition was fourth, followed by I Nelson Pointer, with Lorenes Chimes i last. Owing to the dead-heat, Mr. B. ! S. Irwin, president of the club, stated he would donate a second cup valued at
