Obituary
MR. WILLIAM KELLY j Born in Remuera 71 years ago. Mr. William Kelly died on Wednesday at his house in St. Benedict's Street, Newton. Mr. Kelly was the son of Captain Kelly, of the 83rd Regiment, who came out to New Zealand on the staff of Sir George Grey. He was cousin to the late Earl of 'Ypres, formerly Field-Marshal Sir John French. Mr. Kelly joined the New Zealand Armed Constabulary at the age of 37, and was stationed for many years in Auckland. Altogether, he was over 40 years in the police force, retiring in 1915. For six years after that he was well known as the proprietor of the Anchor Hotel. He finally retired in 1923. Mr. Kelly leaves a wife and two sons, Messrs. Charles and Norman Kelly. There are five grandchildren. His *si3ter, is Mrs. G. Woodhouse, of Auckland. MR. THOMAS WINGFIELD The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Thomas Wingfield, of Ranfurly Road, Epsom, at the age of 72. Mr. Wingfield was injured in a motor-car accident about five weeks ago and never recovered completely. He was born in Liverpool and came out to New Zealand with his sister at the age of nine. He was brought up by his uncle, Mr. Alexander Burt, of Dunedin, the founder of the firm of A. and T. Burt, Limited. After going to the Otago Boys’ High School he went over to Melbourne tr» enter the timber business and on returning to Auckland he founded a business there which he carried on until the time of his death. Mr. Wingfield leaves a wife, one son. Mr. T. A. B. Wingfield, of Dunedin, and one daughter, Mrs. L. M. Speg&ll, of Bulawayo.
