TAURANGA NEWS

Everything is shaping for a very successful winter exhibition and carnival at Tauranga. The Town Hall has proved not large enough and the committee has had to build a new building 30ft x 60ft adjoining the hall, and also erect three large marquees. For four days the town will be in a state of carnival. Special excursion trains will be run. The exhibition will be held on May 30, 3 6, 17, 18.

At the annual meeting of the Tauranga branch of the Farmers’ Union th'-' following officers were elected: President, Mr. C. E. Macmillan. M.P.; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. T. Condon and F. W. Ream; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. T. Clinkard. A long list of remits for the provincial conference was considered. Mr. F. W. Ream was appointed delegate to the Bav of Plenty Development League and Mr. C. E. Macmillan was elected to represent the branch at the provincial conference.

The Baptist Church congregation held its annual meeting on Wednesday evening. The report and balance sheet disclosed a satisfactory state of affairs. The church property consisting of the church and a large Sunday school room are entirely free of debt, and a credit balance is in hand. All branches of church work were reported to be well maintained. The following officers were elected: Secretary, Mr. G. H. V. Smith; treasurer, Mr. H. B. Gauntlet; deacons, Messrs. A. Stewart, W. Howe, K. E. Johanson, T. M. Playfair: superintendent of Y r outh Work, Mr. E. Seed: organists, Mrs. Smith and Miss Wellington.
