LODGER WHO FLITTED

SLAUGHTERMAN FINED £2 Silently creeping away and leaving an unpaid board bill behind him saved Henry Charles Sidney Keevey £1 10s six months ago, but it resulted in his appearance in the Police Court this morning. T/EEVEY was charged with obtaining £1 10s credit by fraud from Adeline Dent, and Mr. Alan Smyth entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf. Mrs. Dent, a boarding-house keeper, said that Keevey came to her on November 15 for accommodation. He had promised to pay his board at the end of the week and told her that he was working at Westfield. He then disappeared and when witness communicated with Westfield she was told that nobody named Keevey worked there. She had thought it wise to turn to the police. Mr. Smyth said that Keevey, who really was a slaughterman though he was not working at Westfield at the time, should not have been charged with obtaining credit by fraud. lie had been out of work and was finding it difficult to settle earlier debts. Mrs. Dent should, have made a civil claim for recovery of a debt. Keevey assured the court that he was willing to pay his board when he had the money. This arrangement, however, did not appeal to Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., who fined him £2, m default seven days’ imprisonment.
