Day, Labour member for Southwark Central, called attentiom to the frequency of clandestine marrit.ges at Gretn.t Green. He suggested a commission to inquire into marriages under the Scottish law. Mr. A. M. Macßobert, SolicitorGeneral for Scotland, said he was aware there were many irregular marriages at Gretna Green, and at many other places in Scotland. He was considering the question of an inquiry. Mr. Day asked if there were not 215 marriages contracted at Gretna Green last year, of which only IS were registered? Mr. Macßobert said he was not aware of the exact figures.
