LEVEL-CROSSING DANGERS
WARNING DEVICES FIRST NECESSITY QUESTION OF COSTS The council of the Auckland Automobile Associati<?n is of opinion that it is better to erect warning devices at a number of railway crossings than to spend the same amount of money on the elimination of two or three of the most dangerous crossings. At a meeting of the association council last evening the chairman, Mr. M. H. Wynyard, said that the latest model of warning signal aould be erected for £250 and maintained for about £25 a year. The elimination of a crossing would cost thousands of pounds. It was decided to approve of the negotiations concerning crossings bring made between the Railway Department and Main Highways Board so long as the crossings to be attended to were referred to the North Island Motor Union for its opinion.
