FROM MUSICAL COMEDY TO “TALKIES”

BEATRICE LILLIE, the popular musical comedy actress, who will be heard in a “talkie” feature at the STRAND THEATRE on Friday. She is a Canadian by birth andi in private life is the wife of Sir Robert Peel. Miss Lillie’s talents and comedy sense were first revealed to playgoers in Chariot’s revue. In the intimate black-out skits of this English production, the erudite critics discovered a new droll comedienne worthy of a niche with the best of contemporary comics. So great was her success that she was featured in “Oh, Please,” and starred last season by Charles Dillingham in a musical comedy called “She’s My Baby,” which had a lengthy run on Broadway. It was during this engagement that she made her Movietone recording which has met with great success.
