McDonald drove his own nomination, Roseneath. who was equal favourite with Wally wood for the race. Roseneath started from 24yds behind scratch, and. entering the second lap. made a smart dash on the outside. Going out of the straight she was taken across to the rails. an( j . it was evident that the move on the part of the driver caused some crowding. for the field was bunched at th# time. Clever Driving Roseneath appeared to stumble a, she got in front, but clever driving averted any accident on this account. For all bis endeavours, McDonald was beaten out of a place. Roseneath showed the effects of the early struggi# for the lead when the last two furlong* were begun, and Wallywood, who lost about 30 yards at the start, pvit up a great effort to win from Excelsior and : Ribbleson. Fine Record McDonald drove 50 winners last s«*j son. establishing an Australasian re- ! cord. In the nine months of th# present season he had driven more than 40 winners, and as his large team * in excellent racing condition, indications were that he would eclipse last year's performance. It is not an uni usual occurrence for him to win two jor three races at a meeting. Testerday he won the Flying Handicap with | Lee Ribbon, but Silver Tornado found | Golden Rose too good for him in th# i Epping Handicap. An appeal will most likely be lodged against the suspenC.J.C.
