FRANKLIN PREPARATIONS NO OUTSTANDING GALLOPS All fast work prior to the breakfast interval at Ellerslie this morning was executed on No. 1 grass, but at about 8.30 a.m. the course proper was made available, most trainers preferring this track. The trestles were out 30 feet, making times slower than those registered on No. 1 grass. Conditions ruling were ideal, the tracks showing a tendency toward slow times. Number One Grass High Pitch and Modest Boy were first out, the pair being associated over a round in 1.55 1-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.21. They were together most of the way and were not prevailed upon to do their best. Tliursby and Kawainga had little between them in an essay from the sixlurlong post, covered in 1.21 2-5. Salamander ran seven furlongs, the last six in 1.21 4-5. The Lover and Corinax commenced slowly to cover a circuit, but warming up to their work and timed the last mile, they covered the initial two furlongs in 24 4-5, three in a tick under 38, and the final mile in 1.47 2-5. Five furlongs from home Palmares joined issue with the pair, and Corinax eased Lip. Palmares and The Lover went on to finish on terms. It was a satisfactory trial for The Lover’s Cup engagement on Saturday and provided he is judiciously handled he should take a power of beating. Bayly Damon and War Officer were partnered over six furlongs, the latter showing dash at the end to be up with his companion in 1.21 4-5. Chesuerman travelled comfortably over six furlongs in 1.23 3-5, Sleepy Sol carrying out a similar contract in 1.25 2-5. Bright Land, a recent addition to J. Williamson’s stable, slipped over six furlong’s in a smart 1.19. From a standing start Gold Money and King Emerald ran home from the five-furlong post in 1.5 3-5, with neither unduly hurried. Gold Money is a picture at present and must be favourably considered in the sprint event at Pukekohe on Saturday. Abbot’s Delight beat Zircon over six furlongs in 1.22 2-5, but the latter, ridden by trainer W. Garrett, was pulling hard. Good. Boy showed that everything is all right with him by moving over six furlongs in 1.20 1-5, the final five in 1.7 2-5. Te Money and Dark Prince failed to go off evenly for an essay over five furlongs, but timed for the last half-mile they registered 53 3-5, doing it easily. Theodolite finished in advance of Eager Rose over five furlongs, in 1.5 45, but the latter was not being exerted. For a similar distance Bizarro and Diamond Queen recorded 1.7 2-5. Taneriri, who with Hoariri arrivel back from Sydney on Tuesday, was asked to travel nicely over half a mile in 55 1-5. Course Proper Neil and Lady Suzanne, both two-year-olds, did a serviceable task over half a mile in 53. Standfast and New Boy (who was eased up in the concluding stages) covered six furlongs in 1.22 1-5. The jumpers, Kamehameha and Master Doon, ran from winning post to winning post in 2.14 1-5, the latter being very tired at the end. Dave and Praetor attracted some attention by recording 52 for half a mile, the best gallop on this track from a time point of view. Lady Spalpeen, now in E. C. Rae’s stable at Ellerslie, moved steadily over four furlongs in 56 1-5. Lidc- and Respirator could have done better than 1.10 for five furlongs. Harbour View had the better of Clockwork in a bout over six furlongs in 1.23. Che’.one set off from the six-furlong post, but the pace was not clapped on until a furlong had been covered, the last five taking 1.6. Roman Pearl, BramptOn and Killute accomplished a gallop over six furlongs in 1.19 1-5, the first-mentioned proving superior to her companions. Mountain Guide brought Lady’s Boy home over the last three and a-half furlongs of a six-furlong gallop. Lady’s Boy registering 1.21 2-5 for the journey. Welkne was sent six furlongs and, doing it easily, ran home in 1.22. The Jumpers Charitane (R. Olive) improved his knowledge of hurdling by satisfactorily jumping four pony hurdes. Kauri Park (R. Olive) and Marita (J. Sharkey) were to have been in company over four schooling hurdles, but after fencing in splendid style at the initial jump Marita caught the second fence and fell heavily. Luckily the rider escaped injury. Kauri Park continued over the remaining two fences and gave a safe display.
