REPARATION RUMOURS
BRITAIN STANDS TO LOSE £44,000,000 OTHER SACRIFICES ALSO? (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.23 a.m. PARIS, Tuesday. It is persistently reported that the new reparations plan, under which Britain will lose £44,000,000, also involves reduction of the Spa percentages at Britain’s expense, despite repeated British declarations that it would never assent to a departure from the Spa agreement. A London message states that the Paris correspondent of the “Morning Post” says it is understood that Mr. Owen D. Young,, chief United States delegate to the conference of the Committee of Experts on Reparation, has again approached his Government. His object is to obtain a reduction of the claim for the expenses of the United States’ army of occupation. The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says M. Moreau, Governor of the Bank of France, who is the head of the French delegation, returned from the country to Paris yesterday. He went immediately to an hotel, where Sir Josiah Stamp (Britain) and Dr. Schacht (Germany) were engaged all day in discussing the details of Mr. Young’s scheme. The result will be a document tabulating the German and Allied points of .view. This should be in the hands of the other creditor members of the committee this evening in readiness for discussion at a full session. The correspondent says France is likely to accept the plan only as a basis for discussion.
