A DANGEROUS PRACTICE
Sir, Last evening, at 7.25, I was standing near Church Street level crossing—the scene of the late fatal accident — and I was surprised to see a goods train come down the hill from Penrose without a headlight burning. The whistle was freely sounded, but a motorist -would have had no chance owing to no light being visible. It is a common thing for an engine to run up from Otahuhu after dark without a headlight burning. This is a dangerous practice, and should be stopped. RESIDENT.
