At the annual meeting of the Ohura sub-branch of the women's division of the Farmers’ Union, the following officers were elected: President, Mrs. Loft; vice-president, Mrs. X. J. 15. Dougherty (Ohura); Mrs. D. J. Bruce (Niho Niho) and Mrs. T. Grant (Tokirima); secretary, Mrs. P. Dons; committee, Mesdaraes Craven, Johnston, Potter, Old, Kelly, Julian, Robinson, W. J. Aitcheson, C. Aitcheson, and J. N. Brown. The retiring secretary, Mrs. Craven, presented a report showing that the financial position of the branch was very sound. Mrs. Coogan, secretary of the Taumarunui branch, was in attendance, and gave an interesting address. The meeting passed a resolution of regret at the unavoidable resignation of the president, Mrs. Dougherty, and the secretary. Mrs. Craven, and votes of thanks were passed for the great work they had done for the division during their tenure of office. Mrs. E. Edwards, of Kaitieke, entertained' a number of young people to a most delightful party at her residence, Maungaroa Road. Games and dancing passed a jolly evening, and the hostess dispensed a daintv supper. * * «ti At the termination of the announcement of the municipal election results at Taumarunui on Wednesday evening, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Manson entertained a large number of guests to supper at their residence. A very enjoyable time was spent, and Mr. Manson proved himself a good sportsman by accepting his defeat for the mayoralty in a spirit of resignation. The Kakahi Ladies’ Hockey Club conducted a pleasant and very successful dance in the town hall in aid of the club funds. A cake presented by Mr. C. Adison as the prize of a competition was won by Miss W. Stevenson. The spot waltz competition was won by Mr. T. Jones and partner. Mr. L. Rowbotliam was M.C., and the Merry Five supplied the music. The concluding dance arranged by the Ohura Tennis Club with the object of augmenting its funds was widely patronised, and the financial result of the three functions is very satisfactory to the organisers, Mrs. H. Thompson and Mr. C. Kicholls. Bridge evenings are again becoming a popular feature of the season’s social events in Taumarunui. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Joyes gave a party to a large number of guests at their residence, the winners being Mrs. Miles, Mrs. Edwards, Mr. O’Brien, and Mr. Edwards. Mrs. A. Johnston and Mrs. M. H. Wilks were the organisers of an evening held at the former’s home, Rajjgaroa, the guests comprising members of the ladies’ golf club and other friends. Contributions were received toward the expenses of providing certain necessary articles at the clubhouse. Mrs. L. King won the prize for the highest score. Mrs. Pritchard, a visitor from Auckland, coming closest to the hidden number. Mrs. Kinnell was awarded the consolation prize, and Miss W. MacPherson was the winner of an interesting competition. The Right Rev. the Bishop of Waikato, Dr. Cherrington, and the newlyinducted vicar of Taumarunui, Rev. J. W. Burley, were the guests of the parishioners to breakfast at the Hotel Grand after the early Communion service on Sunday morning. Mr. H. Seddon Hills and Mr. D. McNab, church wardens, were in charge, and the former, in welcoming the guests, spoke of the church work. Mr. G. E. Manjson, the Mayor of Taumarunui, extended the welcome of the citizens. Both guests responded readily, and in his remarks the new minister extended a hearty welcome to all parishioners to visit him at the vicarage and discuss their troubles with him.
